The Romanian Street Art Map documents artistic interventions from Romania’s major cities – Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Reșița, Timișoara, Sibiu, Craiova, Brașov, Constanța, Ploiești, Bacău – but also from smaller localities, such as Vama Veche. It brings together a variety of works, from murals to small interventions, offering the public an interactive tool for cultural and urban exploration.
Some of these works were made at renowned local festivals, such as FISART Timișoara, Artown Ploiești, SISAF Sibiu or Bridge Delivery Iași, but also through cultural projects dedicated to urban art, including RegenerARTE Iași, Street Art București, Explorări Artistice ale Spațiului Public, Romanian Street Art and Un-hidden Romania. Through these initiatives, the artists had the opportunity to intervene directly on the public space, contributing to urban regeneration and to the consolidation of a dialogue between communities, which amplifies the sense of belonging.
Among the Romanian artists included on the map are Alex Baciu, Coon One, Dan Perjovschi, Delia Cîrstea, Harcea Pacea, LBWS Cat, Lună, Lux, Maria Bălan, Mebster, Msero, Ocu, Oksen, Ortaku, Ohboy, Pisica Pătrată, Robert Obert, Roper, Sweet Damage Crew (Cage, Biex, Recis, Lost.Optics, Pandele, Taci 41) along with numerous other local creators who define the current street art scene in Romania.
The map also highlights the contributions of international artists, such as Vhils (Portugal), Farid Rueda (Mexico), Jana Danilović (Serbia), Zmaja (Serbia), Bona Berlin (Germany), Mister Thoms (Italy), Okudart (Spain), Bilos (Greece), Twee Muizen (Spain), Izzy Izvne (Republic of Moldova), Artminina (Ukraine), LBWS Cat (Ukraine), Sunshiners(Bulgaria), Christopher Dyer (Canada) & Klonism (United Kingdom), Aleksi Ivanov (Bulgaria). This diversity shows the openness of the local scene and the constant connections between Romanian and international artists.
The map is aimed at the general public – tourists, urban explorers, street art enthusiasts, city dwellers – but also those professionally interested in the evolution of contemporary art in the public space. It facilitates the discovery of alternative cultural routes, connects visitors with artists and provides an overview of how street art contributes to the transformation and enhancement of the urban landscape in Romania.
